Even though as adults we live under our own rules, when it comes to our families (extended to the nth degree), most of us go crazy emotional at oftentimes harmless (albeit tactless) comments. Deborah Tannen has a wonderful new book called “I Only Say This Because I Love You” which talks about one of main issues of many Filipinos – how we deal with our parents and siblings. Chapters include coping with family gossip, taking control in family arguments, how gender patterns affect conversations and breaking free from past disappointment and hurt. Easier said than done but necessary for inner peace and harmony. =)
